Latest large investment decisions: Tesla, BASF and Microvast

Californians will have noticed: the Greater Berlin area is the site of Tesla´s 4th GIGAFACTORY. On November 12, 2019, Elon Musk announced the construction of a gigafactory here. Brandenburg has thus won the international competition for the most sought-after location of the moment! The news catapulted the location into the Champions League of electric mobility.

Watch a recent aerial video of the new Tesla site in Grünheide, right on Berlin´s beltway.

In the wake of this decicion, the world´s largest chemical company, BASF, in February 2020 announced  to build a new facility to produce battery cathode materiel in Schwarzheide, in the south of Brandenburg, for 400,000 electric vehicles per year.

Another investment in recent weeks concerning eMobility is that of Texas based Microvast, Inc. in Ludwigsfelde/Brandenburg (the home of Mercedes Benz light trucks). From December 2020 onwards, the new factory will produce battery systems for trucks and SUVs. This means at least 250 new manufacturing jobs.

Investments pay off in Brandenburg

Since the Berlin Wall came down, Brandenburg has developed into a prospering business location. In a recent analysis by the German Economic Institute (IW), 3 of the 10 most dynamic among the 401 German counties and independent cities are situated in Brandenburg. Companies which settle in the strong industrial state of Brandenburg around the federal capital of Berlin benefit from the best conditions. Investing here pays off.
